With more than two decades of public relations and journalism success, Sonya Snyder brings a wealth of marketing, media and public relations, e business, copy writing, editing, corporate positioning and reputation management experience to Quill. She has a proven and extensive record of accomplishment in achieving ROI through marketing, publicity and promotional results for clients throughout a wide variety of industries, utilizing an ever-increasing array of marketing communications tools.
Her aggressive company has been named one of the Top 20 Public Relations Firms, and one of the Top 100 Women-Owned Businesses , chosen from more than 140,000 women-owned businesses, through Florida’s business journals. She is also one of 60 women nominated for the Orlando Business Journal’s Women Who Mean Business awards.
Sonya has developed and executed successful marketing and promotional focuses for a wide variety of industries, including: medical, real estate, law firms, high tech, travel & tourism, hospitality, epicure/culinary/restaurants, attractions & theme parks, meetings & conventions, non profits, gaming, photography, professional career services, natural/homeopathic medicine, commercial surveying, engineering & construction, and many others.
Prior to her agency work, Sonya was the director of public relations with The Peabody Orlando hotel in Orlando, Florida, for six years. During this time, her promotion and media directives annually garnered the hotel and the Peabody Hotel Group millions of dollars worth of regional-international and trade recognition, and placement for top honors as one of the South’s finest luxury, convention and culinary destinations. She opened her own firm after taking the hint from other area hoteliers, themed attraction leaders and restaurateurs, who kept calling her Peabody offices asking if she would please represent them!
She also served as opening public relations manager for Sonesta International, for the Sanibel Harbour Resort & Spa in Ft. Myers, Florida. In addition to successfully fulfilling key marketing strategies for the resort’s grand opening, she promoted such subsequent high-impact international media events as the Davis Cup Tennis Championships and many national, international, regional and trade/industry news promotions.
Sonya has also served as publicity manager for the Daytona Beach Convention & Visitor’s Bureau in Daytona Beach, Florida, where she directed public relations and publicity efforts for the destination including: trade shows, city wide promotions, beach and wildlife publicity, eco-clean up and green programs, and goodwill opportunities involving many of the area’s attractions, hospitality and restaurant members.
She began her career as a news reporter in television and radio broadcasting in Erie, PA, before realizing that, though she loved it, she could possibly starve working in the news industry at that time. She moved to a warmer climate so as not to freeze to death. At the same time she continued her radio news and DJ work, she also began corporate freelance and marketing consulting opportunities with various corporate marketing communications departments in Florida The rest they say, is history.
Snyder graduated with a BA in Journalism and a minor in Political Science from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She has continued her education by completing numerous sanctioned and accredited graduate and undergrad psychology, management and marketing courses through Argosy University, Valencia Community College and the American Hotel & Motel Association. Originally from Pennsylvania, Sonya has lived in Florida since 1984.
She has regularly served in industry-related organizations such as on the board of the Orlando Advertising Federation, the Public Relations Society of America’s Travel & Tourism Board, the American Advertising Federation board, and the Central Florida Hotel Lodging Association’s Public Relations Committee, as Chairman, and on the Central Florida Christian Chamber of Commerce Leader’s Board of Advisors.
As a past-president of Toastmaster’s, President Sonya Snyder is a popular speaker on a wide range of business topics. She has spoken on Marketing and service standards for such groups as: The National Council for Marketing & Public Relations, National Conference; the Florida Literacy Coalition; the Grant Writer’s Professional Network; the Philanthropy & Non Profit Leadership Center, Rollins College; the University of Central Florida, and many others.
Quill’s President was also named Honorary Co-Chairman of Florida, and awarded the Business Advisory Council’s National Leadership Award from the National Congressional Committee, for Quill’s exemplary communications strategies, business ethics and long-standing professional excellence.
Snyder was also a charter member of the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitor’s Bureau’s Public Relations Committee with John Rutherford, is past-president and founder of a Central Florida Toastmasters International chapter, served as board member and Washington D.C. ambassador for the Central Florida Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), served as a member of the Seminole County Lake Mary Regional Chamber of Commerce, and is a philanthropist and volunteer for Grace To You, Give Kids The World, Good News Prison Ministry, Second Harvest, Coalition For The Homeless, the ACLJ, the First Orlando marketing committee, Prodigal 15 Productions, My Christian Films, and a variety of additional worthwhile charities and causes. She is also a published author and a sought-after professional speaker.
